Wayne Wood Book Signing
Join the San Marco Preservation Society and San Marco Books and More on Monday, Dec. 19 for an EXCLUSIVE history pop-up event with Jax historian Dr. Wayne Wood!
He'll be discussing his new book, the Bicentennial edition of "Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage," talking about South Jacksonville history, and signing copies of the new book. Supplies of his newest title are extremely limited and are expected to sell out before the new year.
Light refreshments will be served at 6:00 p.m., and Dr. Wood's program will begin at 6:30 p.m. He will sign copies of his books immediately following his presentation. PLEASE respond to this event if you are planning to attend so we have an accurate headcount.
The Bicentennial edition of "Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage" will be available for purchase at the San Marco Bookstore, just in time for holiday gift giving. (Parking for the event behind the Square is encouraged, in the Aspire Church parking lot.)
When Jacksonville’s Architectural Heritage: Landmarks for the Future was first released in 1989, it sold out in the first ten days. After a couple of minor revisions and six printings, there have been frequent requests to publish a totally updated version. It has been out of print for eight years.
Author Wayne Wood and the Jacksonville Historical Society have been persuaded to do a new edition of this book for the city’s Bicentennial year. Rather than simply reprint the earlier book, they decided to create a major new work. Although based on the original 1989 book, the new volume has been completely updated to include nearly 400 new sites not included in the earlier volume. Mid-Century Modern buildings, as well as newly discovered architectural gems, culturally significant buildings, and an entire section of little-known and highly unusual sites will add an entirely new perspective.
Unlike the earlier book, this Bicentennial Edition is all in color and features over 1,000 new photographs taken specifically for this project. The result is a showcase of Jacksonville’s architecture unlike anything ever published. If you liked the old book, you will love this new one even more.
This special Bicentennial book will have a limited print run, so pre-order your copy today.
